Italian special transport firm Fagioli has bought a 750t capacity crawler crane, in a move to expand its scope of services to include heavy lift.

In November the company’s new Liebherr LR 1750 crawler crane joins its fleet; next year it will add Liebherr’s largest, the 1,350t LR 11350.

The Milan, Italy-based company has also expanded its presence in the past few years to include London, Houston, Singapore, Mumbai, Seoul, Dammam and Abu Dhabi.

The change “was possible only through a huge investment in resources; the engineering department of the group has become the core of the group,” says Paolo Cremonini, director of operations and project management.

The LR 1750’s first lifting operations will be in Tamoil Refinery in Cremona (Italy), removing and re-installing a column with a weight of 200t. After this, other projects have been already assured both in Italy and in North Africa until next year, Cremonini said.

Previously the company’s largest telescopic crane was 200t capacity. The company’s main speciality up until now has been alternative lifting, and it has a fleet of 800 self-propelled modular trailers, 500 strand jacks, 420m of modular lifting towers and skidding, jacking and elevator systems.

Cremonini said the choice of Liebherr for the big crawlers was not easy, and took a year of analysis. Manitowoc, Terex-Demag and Liebherr ‘are all “first class” crane fabricators with long experience and wonderful products,’ he said.
