The fire brigade of Reutlingen, Germany has purchased a new 70t Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane fitted with fire service equipment.

The multi-function crane features the VarioBase variable supporting base, said to be unique to the LTM 1070-4.2 in the mobile crane sector. The base enables the crane to be erected without fully extending the supports, saving time and reducing the space required at accident sites.

Reutlingen Fire Brigade is using the crane, which has a 50m boom, for a range of tasks, including rescuing people, assisting at road accidents involving trucks, and for hoisting loads and securing actions at altitudes after explosions or collapses.

The crane replaces a 24-year-old, 30t model in the fire brigade's fleet.

Liebherr, which has built cranes for fire services for more than 40 years, supplied an LTM 1070-4.2 mobile crane to the Reutlingen Fire Brigade.
