Multiple tower cranes on space-restricted site

Dutch crane company Multi-Crane, which specialises in the global procurement, sales, and rental of tower cranes, self-erecting cranes, and mobile cranes, has deployed six Potain MDT topless tower cranes for the De Zaanse Helden residential project in Zaandam,

The Netherlands.

The project comprises ten buildings, with solar panels and rooftop gardens, which will add 607 apartments and commercial spaces to the city.

The tower cranes are lifting a diverse range of construction materials including precast concrete, formwork, floor panels, and steel structures.

The project was characterised by a lack of space on the jobsite. As a result Multi-Crane collaborated closely with contractor Stebru Bouw to carefully plan the cranes’ positioning, hook heights, and oversailing. 

Three MDT 319 (12 t maximum capacity), two MDT 389 (16 t maximum capacity) and one MDT 308 A (12 t maximum capacity) were deployed for the project. They have varying rental periods ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 years. The cranes have different heights under hook, from 35 m up to 75.6 m, and the jib lengths vary from 35 to 50 m.

Stebru Bouw commenced construction in 2021 and the project is on track for completion this year (2024).
