Tadano GTC 1800EX used by Saller for warehouse build in Germany

Deggendorf, Germany-based crane rental company Saller used a Tadano GTC-1800EX telescopic boom crawler to install 210 concrete columns and their footings, weighing up to 25.7 tonnes, as part of the construction of a central warehouse for a large e-commerce business in Rostock, Germany.

To lift the columns the crane was configured with a track width of six metres, 45 tonnes of counterweight, and 15 tonnes of central ballast. In this configuration it lifted 210 columns and 2,400 concrete components into place over the course of over two months.

The columns, measuring up to 17 metres long, were bought to the site in pairs via a lowbed trailer. The GTC-1800EX set them down temporarily on the ground where Saller technicians replaced the slinging gear with lifting rods that were inserted through premade holes in the columns. They were then moved them into a vertical position, with Saller placing the footings into foundation holes.

For the lifts Saller utilised the GTC-1800EX’s 13.9-tonne line pull winch with 245-metre-long and 26-millimetre-thick wire ropes on its primary and auxiliary hoists to make the lifts with low reeving.

“Our competitors have primarily limited themselves to using the crane for wind power projects to date,” commented Saller managing director Franz Saller. “However, it’s an extremely versatile crane and a perfect choice for conventional work sites, infrastructure projects, and building construction as well. It was the perfect machine for our project in Rostock.”
