Small crawler cranes blossom at Bauma China

At least eight differerent manufacturers exhibited small crawler cranes at Bauma China. Although many may never be sold outside of China, and not all of the manufacturers might survive in the long term, still the variety of new crane manufacturers might pose a threat to more established Asian, European and US crawler crane manufacturers.

A trading business for used mobile cranes set up by Japanese crane manufacturer Kobelco is moving away from exporting Japanese cranes, according to global sales and marketing manager Yukinori Okagaki.

XCMG launches Asia's biggest ATs at Bauma China

The QAY500 all terrain crane has a seven-section, 84m main boom with single-cylinder pinning system. The crane can be fitted with 63m fixed jib or 95m luffing jib. What the company calls an 'improved' superlift system increases jib lengths by 7-12m and increases lifting capacity by 12-60%. There is also an auxiliary winch available.

Although crane handover ceremonies are a common event at every trade show, perhaps as a result of the turbulent economic climate Bauma China had relatively few. This handover was one of the first of the show, just after XCMG CEO Wang Min opened the stand.

Tower crane manufacturers at Bauma China have set their sights beyond the boundaries of China. Most of these exhibitors have export managers and have already sold some cranes outside of China, although rarely to the USA or Europe. There were large luffing-jib, flat-top and saddle-jib towers.

Chinese makers show large crawlers at Bauma China

Four Chinese manufacturers have launched new crawler cranes with lifting capacities greater than 250t at the Bauma China show in Shanghai this week. In addition to the show's largest crane, the 1,000t Sany SCC 10000 and Sany's 280t SCC2800WE crawler, there is a 650t crawler from XCMG, a 500-tonner from FUWA (previously known as Fushun), 320t crawler from Foton Lovol and a 260t crawler from Zoomlion.

Chinese construction equipment machinery manufacturer Sany has shown off the prototype of China's largest crane at the Bauma China fair, the 1,000t-capacity SCC 10000. Testing will be finished in three months, according to assistant director of Sany's crawler crane research institute, Zhang Ge.

Chinese crawler crane and truck crane manufacturer Sany has shown a prototype of its first all-terrain crane, the QAY 220, at Bauma China. Unlike similar ATs made by rivals Zoomlion and XCMG, the crane runs on five, not six, axles.

Twelve Linden-Comansas working on Singapore's Marina Sands

The Spanish factory of tower crane manufacturer Linden-Comansa has delivered 12 cranes now working on Singapore's first casino, Marina Bay Sands. Five are the latest LCL 500 luffing jib cranes which have a free-standing height of 68.3m.

The 500t capacity, eight-axle LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane is on show. With a seven-section 84 m telescopic boom this crane provides outstanding lifting height and outreach. First introduced at Bauma 1998, the LTM 1500 has become a very successful crane for customers throughout the world and still represents a state-of-the-art lifting machine. In September 2008, Liebherr delivered the 200th unit of the LTM 1500-8.1 to a German customer. The crane relies on a wide, oval boom to resist buckling. The Tele-matik telescoping system developed by Liebherr, which is based on internal locking of the telescopic sections, allows the boom to be extended fully automatically to any length.

On show is a version of the TC Tronic crane and heavy vehicle transmission called TC Tronic HD (heavy duty). The TC Tronic transmission is particularly intended for crane trucks and heavy trucks with trailers. It combines the 12-speed AS Tronic automatic transmission with a torque converter clutch (WSK).
