Finnish specialised transport company Silvasti has begun operating the latest Mega Windmill Trailer XXL (MWT-XXL) following its delivery by Nooteboom, with initial feedback indicating increased stability and familiar handling for drivers experienced with previous trailer models.
Nooteboom introduced the MWT-XXL in January 2025 and delivered two units to Silvasti, which has worked with earlier MWT trailers for several years across multiple projects.

The MWT-XXL, first displayed at Bauma in Munich, is designed to transport a wider range of wind turbine tower sections with inner diameters from roughly 2,850mm to 6,100mm.
The trailer’s double, hydraulically height-adjustable A-frame and three-point clamping system enables it to handle both large and small tower diameters, as well as nacelles.
Silvasti CEO Ville Silvasti said: “The improvements are mainly constructional and that’s actually a very good thing. We already had extensive experience with the earlier MWT models, and over the years we’ve bought at least 25 of them.”
The company emphasises that constructional updates contribute to the overall stability of the trailer during operation, which is particularly relevant in the wind energy transport sector where precision and equipment dependability are required.
The MWT-XXL has been used in recent projects, including the transport of wind tower sections in Lithuania.
Nooteboom’s design combines air suspension for easier operation and lower maintenance with a 2.84m-wide self-steered dolly, which remains below a 4m height in the unloaded state and is engineered to carry loads of up to 100t.
Recent testing by Nooteboom, involving comparisons between air suspension and hydraulic alternatives, found air suspension to provide at least equivalent stability. The system enables drivers to detect early signs of instability and adjust accordingly.
This configuration also results in lower total loaded weight and reduced hydraulic oil use.
Silvasti confirms that the three-point clamp system simplifies the positioning process compared to traditional four-point systems.
Silvasti and Nooteboom have worked together over several years, with Silvasti providing direct operational feedback that has contributed to updates and refinements implemented in the MWT-XXL.
