Hiap Heng Group has added the Liebherr MK 88-4.1E mobile construction crane to its fleet, marking the Singapore-based company’s first entry into the mobile construction crane segment.
The move is intended to provide Hiap Heng with a lifting solution designed for urban construction projects where space is limited.
Established in 1983, the company operates more than 100 heavy machines, including crawler cranes, mobile cranes, and aerial work platforms, across the construction, marine, infrastructure, industrial and energy sectors.
The organisation’s latest acquisition, the MK 88-4.1E, is aimed at addressing the increasing challenges faced by construction projects in densely populated urban areas.
Hiap Heng Group CEO Joyce Foo said: “The construction industry is constantly evolving. Limited space in urban areas is presenting project managers with increasingly complex challenges. Our clients expect safe and cost-effective solutions. The MK 88-4.1E is a targeted addition to our service portfolio.”
The Liebherr MK 88-4.1E crane features a vertical tower and an asymmetrical outrigger configuration, enabling operations in tight spaces and over structural obstructions.
This design allows for a wide working radius while occupying minimal ground area, making it suitable for city centre construction activities.
According to Hiap Heng, the crane’s ability to operate with a small footprint is expected to support the firm’s work in office buildings, hospitals, schools, shopping centres and infrastructure maintenance.
Operational efficiency was a key factor in Hiap Heng’s decision. The MK 88-4.1E is designed so transport, erection and operation can be managed by a single person, and it can be deployed quickly without extra transport vehicles.
The model’s electric operation also lowers noise and emissions on site, which Hiap Heng sees as important given the rising focus on sustainable construction in Singapore.
Hiap Heng expects the partnership with Liebherr to extend beyond a single purchase.
