Mayo Civil Engineering, a UK-based construction company, has announced the expansion of its crane fleet through the order of eight new WOLFF luffing jib tower cranes.

The new equipment is intended to support the company’s ongoing construction activities across the North of England.

The latest order, which brings the company’s total number of WOLFF tower cranes to 19 when complete, follows an initial purchase of six units, with an additional two cranes subsequently added.

It includes a mix of models: three WOLFF 166 B, two WOLFF 275 B, two WOLFF 235 B, and one WOLFF 355 B.

Several of the first six units have already arrived, while the remainder are set for delivery by the end of 2026. The two additional cranes are expected to join the fleet in 2027.

Currently, two of the newly acquired WOLFF 166 B cranes are operating at the Phoenix Iron Works development in Ancoats, Manchester.

Alongside an existing unit of the same model, these cranes are being used in the construction of an £87.5m ($116m) mixed-use development.

The WOLFF 166 B offers a maximum lifting capacity of 12t and comes with a jib length of up to 55m.

According to Mayo Civil Engineering, the model’s compact dimensions are suited to urban sites where multiple cranes need to work in close proximity.

Other models in the order address a range of lifting requirements.

The WOLFF 235 B is designed with concrete frame contractors in mind, providing a maximum lifting capacity of 16t and hoist speeds reaching 130m/min.

The WOLFF 275 B lifts up to 24t, and the WOLFF 355 B, the largest in the latest purchase, can lift loads of up to 28t and handle 4t at a 60m radius.

All cranes can be mounted on the standard WOLFF TV20/UV20 2mx2m tower system and will receive service and maintenance support from Wolffkran in Sheffield.

Mayo Civil Engineering owner and managing director Gary Mayo said: “This latest investment in addition to our existing fleet, further enables Mayo Civils to fully service our clients across our projects, whilst ensuring the business meets its ongoing commitment to provide a modern and reliable fleet of cranes.”
