Tadano has unveiled its new global all terrain, the 400t ATF 400 G-6, at its plant in Lauf an der Pegnitz, Germany. The six axle is a completely new design, aimed at construction customers worldwide, and compliant with US and EU road regulations.

The first version of Tadano six axle all terrain, the ATF360 G-6, was developed especially for the Japanese market in 2007.

The ATF 400 G-6 gives operators the option of configuring for either long radius or high capacity lifting. It has a 400t lifting capacity, a 60m main boom, a 76m luffing jib, and a maximum tip height of over 124m. A 47m long fixed jib can be assembled from parts of the luffing fly jib and a 24m light fixed jib.

The engine meets the Euromot IIIb and American Tier 4 regulations and reduces particulate emissions by 90 %. This is the most drastic reduction of particle emission since 1999, a Tadano representative said.

Considering the requirement that some contractors use particle filters in the US and EU, the application of Euromot IIIb BlueTec engines which use a chemical additive to reduce emissions, may save the expense of filters, the manufacturer claims.

The lift adjuster is a safety feature available on the new crane that counteracts load swinging under deflection. This feature can be activated when needed and allows the operator to fully concentrate on the lifting.

Alexander Knecht, president and CEO of Tadano Faun, explained during a press conference that the crane was created to satisfy the demand from customers for a simplified lifting process.

The ATF 400 G-6 can perform high capacity lifts without any suspension system, although its A-frame suspension system, called the Tadano Power System (PS), is available as an option to add more capacity. The basic crane requires less additional transport, rigging and derigging time.

Tadano says demand in this crane class is increasing across Europe, North and South America and Asia. Particularly additional growth is expected from markets outside the traditional markets like Europe, North America and Japan, as all terrain demand is steadily increasing in these regions.

Events at the launch included speeches by top executives, fireworks, aerial acrobats suspended from the lowered jib of the ATF 400 G-6 and demonstrations of Tadano Faun’s other Euromot IIIb compliant all terrain cranes.
