Sany Heavy Industry president Xiang Wenbo has rejected a Manitowoc claim of patent infringement, saying the company is proud of its industry leading crane designs. Already in another US court dispute with President Barack Obama, Xiang showed little sign of backing down in this case.
Manitowoc Sany patent complaint reveals crawler plans
US manufacturer Manitowoc has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission, complaining that Sany’s SCC 8500 crawler infringes on two patents, related to Manitowoc’s Variable Position Counterweight (VPC), and claiming that Sany targeted Manitowoc’s employee John Lanning, now Sany’s global head of crawler crane development, based on his knowledge of the technology. In the course of the complaint, Manitowoc reveals that it has been working to develop two more cranes making use of the system.

The UK Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group has launched a public consultation on a new guidance document, Management of Plant Operator Competence, produced in collaboration with the Construction Plant-hire Association. The guidance stresses managers need to do more than just check operators cards.
Liebherr picks Eminox for Stage 4 crane exhausts
British emissions specialist Eminox says it has received an order from Liebherr’s engines division, Liebherr Machine Bulle to supply exhaust system components for up to 10,000 machines a year.
Entrec buys GT’s
Acquisitive Canadian crane and special transport firm Entrec has bought GT’s Crane and Transportation Services, in a deal worth around CAD57m. Entrec will add 45 cranes, including all terrain, rough terrain and picker trucks, 130 multi-wheeled trailers and 50 tractors to its fleet.
Terex to cut 200 jobs
Terex has opened talks with German workers’ council representatives, over plans to cut up to 200 jobs, mainly at its Wallerschied small-to-medium capacity all terrain cranes production facility.
Work begins on Vauxhall crane recovery
The owners of a crane damaged in a fatal London helicopter crash last week have begun recovery of the crane, using a giant Ainscough Terex TC 2800-1 lattice boom truck crane.
