The crane was used to position a 69m-long depropaniser column at a petrochemical plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. The column weighed 755t and was positioned with the crane working at an 84m outreach. The use of the crane allowed engineers to complete the foundations and piperacks before the column was installed.

The AL.SK90 was built exclusively for ALE by its research and development unit in Breda, the Netherlands and has a main mast height of 130m, a load moment of 96,000tm and a lifting capacity of 600t when employed with a quick winch system. It is shipped in standard 20ft and 40 ft containers, and takes a team of 12 people 21 days to assemble and 18 days to disassemble, although ALE says it arrives on site fully rigged “saving considerable time to the construction schedule on major projects”.
