Ainscough said the crane was traveling to a site in Gunthorpe when the accident occurred. The BBC has reported that the crane collided with a car and hit a house. The car was badly damaged, the crane was flipped over and the wooden front porch was knocked off the house, the BBC reported. No-one inside the house was injured.

The crane driver and the driver of the car were taken to hospital. Ainscough said its driver was examined by medical staff and subsequently released from hospital.

“A police investigation is currently underway and we have also launched an internal enquiry to establish the cause of the incident,” said a spokesperson for Ainscough.

The spokesperson added: “Public and employee safety is of paramount importance for Ainscough and our employees undergo rigorous health and safety training, including safety precautions when driving cranes on public roads.”
