Global port and terminal operating company APM Terminals has deployed the Enerpac EMV-Series E-mover at its Valencia terminal in Spain, to facilitate maintenance of container-handling spreaders.
The new equipment enables technicians to transport the heavy spreaders, which weigh 13t and measure 6m in length and 2.5m in width, into the workshop area for servicing.
Previously, the terminal carried out maintenance on these machines outside the workshop due to limitations in moving the spreaders indoors, restricting work to a single unit at a time.
With the addition of the E-mover, featuring a 50t capacity hydraulic cylinder in combination with MLS-Series load skates, staff can now move each spreader into the workshop.
This change allows for the maintenance of two machines simultaneously.
The terminal operates round the clock and processes up to 1.4 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers each year.
The port uses container-handling spreaders attached to cranes to lift shipping containers weighing up to 45t.
Part of Enerpac’s EMLS/EMV Series, the E-mover operates on battery power and enables one person to remotely and safely manoeuvre loads up to 55t in tight or confined spaces.
It features dual-drive motors, a 360-degree tilt swivel saddle, wireless remote control with two joysticks, and variable speed adjustments to adapt to differing handling conditions.
The implementation of this equipment streamlines container-handling spreader maintenance and has changed the maintenance process at the port by enabling the movement of large machinery into workshop areas for improved activity flow.
APM Terminals Valencia equipment project engineer Joan Carbó said: “The Enerpac E-mover has made a big difference to our container spreader maintenance operations.
“The ease of deploying and using the E-mover makes maintenance safer and quicker, lifting our safety standards, as well as allowing us to fully optimise the space available in the workshop.”
In February, Enerpac introduced the LHS4-2, a system designed for skidding loads of up to 362.9t.
The LHS4-2 system is compatible with the previous LHSS400 skidding model and is intended for straightforward and rapid deployment.
