US lifting company Barnhart Crane & Rigging, based in Memphis Tennessee, has set up a project office in Chicago that will concentrate on heavy rigging and transportation projects in the Midwest.

The new operation will be headed by John Boone, who joined Barnhart Crane & Rigging in 1999. He said: ‘The Chicago office will provide heavy lift cranes, specialised transportation and engineered lifting services for major industrial contractors and manufacturers throughout the Midwest. Our first project involves receiving a transformer at the Port of New Orleans, transporting it via barge up the Mississippi River to the Illinois River and offloading in Morris, Illinois. This particular transformer is a back-up unit for the Dresden nuclear power facility.” Boone joined Barnhart Crane & Rigging in 1999, bringing over 10 years experience in crane sales and construction. Barnhart has worked continuously in the Chicago area over the past five years in the power and petrochemical segments providing specialized services to the industrial community. “This move simply improves our service to our customers in the Midwest,” added Boone.

Barnhart Crane & Rigging, established in 1969, now has 11 locations across the USA, including terminal facilities at the Port of Memphis and the deepwater Port of Mobile, Alabama.
