Commercial vehicle safety solutions specialist Brigade has introduced the Backsense Radar On-Screen Display (OSD) visual detection warning system designed to unify radar and camera inputs for commercial vehicles operating in construction and mining environments.
The Backsense Radar OSD integrates radar detection and camera monitoring into a single in-cab display, allowing drivers to receive updates on nearby objects and potential hazards while limiting distraction.
The system overlays radar detection zones and related alerts directly onto the screen and supports this visual information with a five-stage audible alert.
Brigade’s technology utilises adaptive radar capable of detecting objects at distances of up to 60m, operating in environmental conditions such as dust, darkness and adverse weather.
The accompanying AI-powered camera components enable recognition of pedestrians and other obstacles, reinforcing the real-time information drivers receive about their immediate surroundings.
The system supports scalability, allowing connection of up to four radar sensors and three cameras using either AHD or CVBS formats.
It is compatible with Brigade’s Backeye 360 and AI Human Form Recognition systems to further enhance the system’s capacity to detect pedestrians and other hazards.
Radar sensors for the Backsense Radar OSD carry an IP69K rating and operate across a temperature span from minus -40°C to +85°C.
The product complies with CE marking, FCC/IC requirements, and UNECE R10 (E-mark) to meet international regulations.
Brigade senior product manager Thierry Bourgeay said: “Backsense Radar OSD represents a significant step forward in vehicle safety integration. By combining radar and camera technologies into a single, intelligent system, we’re giving operators a clearer, more reliable picture of what’s happening around their vehicles.
“This helps reduce complexity in the cab while increasing confidence on the ground, especially in the challenging environments our customers operate in every day.”
The system is available through Brigade’s network of approved distributors and installers, offering a solution for operators requiring a consolidated and reliable method for vehicle safety monitoring in challenging environments.
