Completing its materials handling disposals, Rolls-Royce has sold the after-market operation of French harbour crane maker Caillard to KCI Konecranes of Finland for an undisclosed sum.
Caillard, based in Le Havre and with 20 employees, has been building cranes since 1859 but will build no more. Under its new ownership it will concentrate on after-sales activities, including spares, modernisations, upgrades and maintenance for its world-wide installed base of more than 1,000 cranes. Caillard will also seek to service cranes from other manufacturers. In March 2000 KCI Konecranes bought the crane maintenance business of Noell Service und Maschinentechnik of Germany. Caillard will now join this Noell Konecranes business.
