For the past nine months I’ve been working on putting together a speaker programme for our regional conference, Cranes Asia, in Singapore.
This year, the two day event takes place on September 10-11. It has been timed to coincide with CICA’s conference in Adelaide the week before (on September 5-7), so that international delegates can visit both events and get a complete picture of the Asia-Pacific crane industry within a week’s travel. I’ll be doing that, and am looking forward to the chance to make new contacts in Asia and Australia.
I’m particularly pleased with the conference programme this year. ?As ever I’ve tried to combine specifically local insights with the latest in best practice from around the world.
The programme starts with two keynote presentations from local speakers. ?First, Frederic Perez, construction director, and Jean-Marc Rannou, operations manager, Dragages Singapore, present an in-depth case study of one of the city’s most ambitious construction projects, the Singapore Sports Hub, and discuss their use of lifting equipment on the site.
Our second local keynote comes from Dr Mohd Fairuz Abdul Rahman, investigating engineer, at Malaysia’s department of occupational safety and health, who will be presenting an analysis of recent crane accidents in the country and their causes, with some comments on how Asian crane owners can avoid similar accidents.
The first morning concludes with a presentation by Mick Hoyle, an independent consultant with extensive experience working with major local contractors like ExxonMobile. ?Hoyle will be discussing the perception and reality of crane safety in Asia.
In the afternoon, we will have further presentations on safety issues, with speakers including Mammoet’s Bryan Cronie and Allianz Engineering’s Martin Banasik. On Tuesday, the conference will open with a double-length presentation by Stuart Anderson, who will present an in-depth presentation on crane sales in the region, backed up with detailed industry data. David Potter, MD of Australian Crane & Machinery, will then discuss his experiences of selling Chinese cranes in a developed market.
The event will conclude with two presentations on international best practice in crane inspection and examination, from Brandon Hitch at CICA and Geoff Holden at LEEA.
I hope many of our readers will find the programme useful. If you’d like to attend, or to know more about sponsorship, please email me and I will forward your request to the right person.
