The China Construction Machinery Association reported that sales revenue in the January–May 2007 period grew by 29.4%, compared to the same period last year. Over 2007, it expects construction plant sales revenues to grow by 23% year-on-year.

More than $2.96bn of equipment was exported in the first five months of 2007, up 66.8% on the same period last year. Engineering cranes and stacker cranes both saw exports more than double. Imports also rose, by 25.8%, to $1.99bn (a trade balance of $970m in China’s favour in this sector).

The association pointed out that this growing, favourable, trade balance came despite the reduction of import taxes.
