The Dutch engineering firm Eyke Hogendoorn has changed its name to Syndus, which it says is easier for its international clients to pronounce.

Accordingly the half-century old Eyke Hogendoorn label will become Syndus group and two of its four branches will have new names.

Eyke Hogendoorn, trading in structural steel engineering, will become Ferris, which represents Iron. Meanwhile its branch trading in industrial equipment and mobile cranes, will be renamed to Arentis, which it intends to represent grade 'A' quality.

"The new names are based on our activities. Syndus for example is created out of the words ‘synergy’, which refers to the synergy throughout our company, and out of ‘synchronization’ with the wishes of our clients," said spokespeson Sandra de Nijs-Heije.

The Ameriplastics group, which produces glass reinforced pipesystems and the Fibrestruct group, dealing in fibreglass, will keep their names.

While the names will change, all other aspects of company organisation, from registration numbers to bank accounts, will remain the same.

Syndus said that it made the decision to facilitate translation of its services for different markets as it expands.
