In Augsburg, Germany, one of the city’s most famous landmarks is the 70-metre high Perlachturm tower which was originally built as a watchtower in the 10th century.

Extensive renovation work is being carried out on the tower. This includes the removal of the tower’s copper dome, weighing around ten tonnes, and the internal reinforced concrete staircase is also being gradually removed to make way for a new, modern staircase.

In this complex construction project all trades involved are using the same vertical transport system: the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platform. With a total of 27 stops and a height of 70 metres Geda says the system is perfectly tailored to the requirements of the Perlachturm renovation.
The 1500 Z/ZP transport platform combines two functions in one: it can be used both as a material hoist and as a transport platform for people and materials. The transport platform control system with a lifting speed of 12 m/min is used for transporting people. If only building materials are being transported the system can be switched to material hoist mode with a speed of 24 m/min.

The transport platform comes in 14 different variants, with different load capacities and dimensions. Platform variant A is being used on this construction site.
According to Geda the transport platform’s UNI-X two-mast system has a load capacity of up to 2000kg and offers stable and smooth handling.
