The Unic URW-376 mini spider crane was used to help create the Homebase Cornish Memories Garden, designed by Tom Hoblyn and built by landscape architects Bowles & Wyer. The centerpieces of Hoblyn’s creation, which was inspired by the Cornish coastline, include a granite edged swimming pool and striking pavilion with shallow pool, both interlinked by a semi-circular rill for water to flow from one end of the garden to the other.

The Unic URW-376 spider crane was hired to lift and install nine granite slabs, weighing 1 tonne each and manoeuvre into position with millimeter precision to form the water rill. The granite rills were painstakingly extracted and carved from the De Lank Quarry, the last remaining commercial quarry in Cornwall, and so needed to be lifted with great care.

The Unic 376 mini crane was chosen for its precise, stable movement that was needed to lay the intricate arrangement of rills. The flexible outrigger positions of the crane made it easy to work on the uneven, soft soil around each pool.

The Unic 376 was on hand throughout the project to lift other stone features include the semi-circular coping stones surrounding the swimming pool and shallow pond.
