CHINESE manufacturer DCW Group, formerly Dalian Crane Works, has won a contract to design, build and install two 600t capacity Goliath cranes to neighbouring shipyards.

One is for Dalian Shipyard Heavy Industries and one is for Dalian New Shipyard Heavy Industries, both in China. Value of the contract is RMB150m ($18m).

The cranes have a span of 182m. One will stand 115m high with a hoisting height of 90m, the other will be 103m high and hoist to 78m. One is scheduled to be delivered in late 2003, the other in early 2004. According to DCW, they will be the largest shipyard cranes in Asia.

Functions include single-hook lifting, double-hook lifting, three-hook lifting, turning over and the ability to micro-rotate ship sections in the air.

Mechanisms and electric control systems will be designed and supplied by KCI Konecranes of Finland.
