The project was overseen by crane company Kranverleih Sommer and involved unloading and positioning the tank, which was being installed as part of the power plant at the Airbus design and manufacturing site.
The 22m-long tank, which can hold around 300 cb m, was delivered upside-down on a low loader to make transportation easier. Upon arrival, the tank was placed on large rollers and turned into position, before being hoisted on to a prepared foundation by the 300t crane.
Sommer took delivery of the Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 in the autumn of 2014 and has since used it for projects at steel and concrete construction sites and on wind turbines, configuring the crane with a luffing jib for many of the jobs.
The crane’s 78m telescopic boom was also used to erect a construction crane at a project in Hamburg. Sommer is now due to acquire two new LTM 1200-5.1 cranes and an LTM 1055-3.2 crane.
