Liebherr Mobile Cranes Korea has supplied an LR 12500-1.0 crawler crane to Hanchang Heavy Equipment, a heavy lifting company in South Korea (SK).

The 2,500t lifting capacity crane is intended for use in sectors including energy infrastructure, offshore wind energy, and industrial plant construction.

Following its delivery, the LR 12500-1.0 has already been put to use on an offshore wind farm construction project managed by SK Ocean Plant.

At this site, the crane is involved in assembling jacket substructures, which are used as foundations for offshore wind turbines.

The LR 12500-1.0, working in conjunction with a Liebherr LR 11350-P1800, has been lifting and positioning heavy steel components.

Equipped with a 126m-long main boom, a derrick system, and floating counterweight, the crane is handling large elements even in restricted spaces.

Hanchang Heavy Equipment has expanded its fleet with the LR 12500-1.0 to address growing demand for heavy lifting solutions, in particular for energy infrastructure projects where component size and weight continue to increase.

The addition is aimed at enhancing the company’s ability to support major projects.

A representative from Hanchang Heavy Equipment said: “Thanks to its high performance and precision, the Liebherr crane is ideally suited to demanding large-scale projects.

“Furthermore, the expert technical support and reliable supply of spare parts provided by Liebherr are important advantages for us.”

The LR 12500-1.0 sits in the Liebherr crawler crane range between the LR 11350 and LR 13000 models. Its HighPerformanceBoom design is central to its lifting ability, featuring a wide lattice boom integrated into the slewing platform.

Two six-cylinder in-line engines deliver a total of 800kW/1,088bhp, and both main hoists are positioned on the rear section of the slewing platform.

The main boom can reach up to 162m, while maximum working height can be around 200m when configured with a luffing jib.

The ballast design and other features are intended to streamline transport and assembly on site.
