The Liebherr LTC 1045-3.1, with its lifting capacity of 45t, is replacing a Liebherr LTM 1025 to respond to a need for increased lifting capacity. The order included the lift cab option that can telescope the operator to a height of 8m.
The new crane will be used for moving pumps, pipes, rollers, heat exchangers and containers.
These are used by the equpiment on what BP calls ‘one of the most complex refineries in the world.’
The LTC 1045-3.1 was chosen in part to respond to a need for a crane with a smaller footprint than a 50t crane but with a larger lift than a 30t crane, for lifts in confined areas.
Michael Wilde, who is BP’s engineer responsible for machinery at the plant, commented on the decision. “For 20 years the LTM 1025 worked really hard for us, and was totally reliable. That’s how we came to be convinced of the real quality you get from Liebherr. If service was ever needed, they were on the spot straight away. The new LTC 1045-3.1 is a modern crane, and that means we are now back with the latest state of the art in crane technology.”
