MacGregor has been contracted to supply a 165t active heave compensated (AHC) crane for a new Ulstein SX121 vessel currently under construction for Jan De Nul.
The deal forms part of a programme involving two potential vessels, with the first unit scheduled for delivery in February 2028.
MacGregor recorded the order in its second quarter 2026 intake.
According to MacGregor, Jan De Nul’s decision was influenced by the supplier’s previous performance on similar installations, with the chosen crane model already deployed in service on other projects.
MacGregor Offshore Solutions executive vice-president Lucie Addicks said: “This crane’s lightweight design gives higher lifting capacity without the added weight of a larger unit, and that translates into a real operational advantage over the vessel’s working life.”
The crane is intended for installation on the new Ulstein SX121 vessel under construction at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard in China, a location where MacGregor maintains a local presence.
This presence includes production capability as well as support for design, installation, and commissioning over the course of the build.
MacGregor said this would allow the shipyard to maintain the planned construction schedule through to delivery.
The order reflects ongoing collaboration between MacGregor and both owners and shipyards in the offshore construction sector.
MacGregor stated that its lifting equipment is intended to provide operational reliability, safety, and performance over the lifespan of vessels.
