US crane builder Morris Material Handling is designing and building a new 40-ton capacity P&H straight track portal crane for Koch Cellulose’s pulp mill in Brunswick, Georgia.

The massive crane will span nearly 100m and stand more than 36m high, replacing a 20-year-old gantry crane at the site. The new crane will operate on the same runway as another P&H portal crane installed in 1996.

The specification includes a large log handling grapple, a personnel elevator, an air conditioned operator’s cab and a maintenance hoist for maintaining the trolley.

Shipment is scheduled for December, with installation completed in March 2006. The crane will be produced at Morris’ facilities in Wisconsin and Ohio.
