Smit Heavy Lift has won a contract to provide heavy-lift support services for the completion of three floating production/storage vessels being built at Aker McNulty’s South Shields yard in the UK.

The floating sheerlegs crane Taklift 7 makes tow visits to the River Tyne under the contract. The first is early this month when the crane, rigged with fly-jib, is to remove the lower turret section of an FPSO to allow equipment and systems to be installed. It will also install modules for a semi-submersible accommodation vessel.

Taklift 7 returns in April for various lifts on another FPSO which is being converted from a shuttle tanker.
