Transport, demolition and heavy lift firm Greving has put its new Grove GMK 6300 to quick use, completing the demolition and replacement of six agricultural silos in half the allocated time.

After purchasing the GMK6300 from Manitowoc’s agent for Germany, KranAgentur Werner, Greving drove the crane 100 miles from Manitowoc’s Wilhelmshaven production facility directly to farming company Haneburg & Leusing’s Ostbevern site to start work.

Rigged with 53m of luffing jib and 43m of the 60m main boom used, the 300t crane lifted each 6t silo at a 64m radius, partially due to the silos’ 15m diameter and 30m height.

This was well within the capabilities of the crane, which has a maximum tip height of 113m, and the crane’s performance helped Greving complete the job in one week instead of the allocated two weeks.

One of Greving’s owners, Andreas Greving, commented: “We have experience with these demolition and replacement projects. But we were still impressed with how quickly we finished.”

“The GMK6300 has excellent, proven lifting capabilities,” said Greving. “Our operator said this crane has extremely smooth functions and is easy to rig. Both helped us finish this project ahead of schedule.

Greving also purchased a 61m luffing jib along with a 51m fixed jib for the crane, which will join the firm’s existing crane fleet of 30 cranes up to 350t capacity.
