Terex Cranes has improved its mid-range rough terrain cranes, upgrading the RT 450 models to a new RT 500 series. The RT 550 is rated at 50 US ton and the RT 555 is rated at 55 US ton. The comparable RT 450 models were rated at 45 US ton and 50 US ton.
While the engine and many components are the same as the predecessor models, the new machines feature better charts and longer booms. Terex claims that the lifting chart is an average of 26% better than the RT 450. With the boom fully elevated and fully extended to 35m, it can lift 10.3t (22,800lb).
Two jib options are offered with the crane: either 9.7m (32ft) or 10.1m extendable to 17.3m (33ft/57ft). Both offset at 0°, 15° and 30°. Maximum tip height is 51.8m (170ft).
The outriggers and beams of the RT 500 are designed to be more rugged and are made of T1 steel. The independent outriggers extend to 7m and are fully hydraulic. Terex says that there is a ‘small increase’ in price for the RT 500 over the RT 450, which is driven by the increase in size and lifting capacity.
Operator cabs on both models are sound- and weather-insulated and fitted with a six-way adjustable seat with mechanical suspension.
