PARTEK Cargotec, the group that includes Hiab truck loader cranes, has signed a framework agreement with Volvo Truck Corporation that sees Volvo selling trucks ready fitted with Cargotec equipment such as cranes and hooklifts.
This will enable customers to receive a purpose-built truck directly from the Volvo factory with a Hiab crane on it. Partek Cargotec will have the prime responsibility for service of the equipment. The deal is not exclusive – it will remain possible to buy a Volvo truck and have another brand of crane fitted by atruck bodybuilder in the traditional way.
Partek president Olof Elenius told Cranes Today that he believed that selling cranes ready fitted on trucks was the future of truck loader crane distribution. ‘Nothing will happen overnight,’ he said. ‘It will take time, but this is the direction.’
Elenius said: ‘Partek Cargotec considers close co-operation with all truck manufacturers very important. By starting co-operation already in the planning phase it is possible to develop comprehensive solutions that really meet the customer’s demands. By developing co-operation with truck manufacturers we also aim to reduce the total throughput time for the complete truck.’
