‘Mobile crane manufacturers will spend less time straightening the plate after welding and can now take full advantage of top-notch steel like Weldox 1030, Weldox 1100 and the next generation Weldox 1300, which in turn leads to benefits in economy as well as function,’ said SSAB research engineer Daniel Stemne.

‘The ability to match the static yield strength in the welded joint with the parent steel represents a huge leap in comparison with conventional welding methods where approximately 900MPa is the limit,’ Stemne said.

He added that mobile crane manufacturers can now use less material, making crane booms lighter without compromising strength. ‘This means that we are going to see more productive, reliable and cost-efficient applications with improved net capacity in the future,’ he added.
