The project is due to get connected to the network for the opening of the Football World Cup in May 2006.
Four WOLFF 6522 cranes and four WOLFF 7031 cranes with saddle jibs were commissioned by Donges Stahlbau GmbH of Darmstadt, and installed on the site, the latter standing on H-frames specially constructed by Donges because of the special site geometry.
The heights of the freestanding tower cranes were coordinated so that the staggered arrangement of heights on the construction site guaranteed optimal deployment in accordance with the limited space available.
The Berlin Main Station construction site consists of two identical construction areas with two WOLFF 6522s and two WOLFF 7031s serving each area. All the tower cranes operate as four-fall systems, and work in almost mirror image in the shadow of each of the 46m high office blocks.
The outer WOLFF 6522 cranes with lifting heights of 65.3m and 54.6m respectively can be swung over by the next adjacent WOLFF 7031s with lifting heights of 74.5m each, and these can be swung over by two other WOLFF 7031s each with 85.8m lifting height.
The outer tower cranes are principally used for concrete construction, and the larger cranes transport glass façade components and structural steel elements.
