Hitachi-Sumitomo

Hitachi-Sumitomo will be showing its latest 350t crawler crane at Bauma, the SCX3500-3, in Weldex colours.

The SCX3500-3 is equipped with cleaner running engine that meets EU stage IV and U.S. Tier 4 final exhaust emission regulations.

In order to reduce fuel consumption, the crane provides eco mode and idle stop functions.

In addition, the machine is designed for outstanding work capabilities within a refined compact-body. With a short tail swing radius specification, the machine live-mast will never exceed the counter weight back radius of 6.8m, the company says. Features of the SCX3500-3 include transportation and assembly system in addition to a quickDraw system for self-installation of the heavy crawler side frames, a boom base and lower weights. This system allows customers to use smaller assist cranes.

Front-rear split upper structure helps to reduce the transport weight to less than 32-tonne. The rear frame shows a single mast and boom hoist winch structure, eliminating the need to remove any hoisting wires. In order to make the assembling work easier, the front and rear structures can be assembled by hydraulic cylinders. The company says the SCX3500- 3 has already been gaining a lot of attention from the customers, receiving many orders.

For example, the crane on show was recently sold to Scottish crane hirer Weldex, by HSC's UK dealer NRC.

In a statement, HSC explained that, "Weldex is the largest crawler crane rental company in the UK, with more than 110 crawler cranes, ranging from 5t to 1350t capacity.

"Their activity has now expanded throughout the global market. In the past Weldex had several units of Sumitomo LS models in their fleet, and have recently ordered six units of 80t capacity SCX800A-3, but this SCX3500-3 is going to be the first delivery of SCX models for the company."

Iain McGilvray, Weldex's managing director, said: "We trust HSC provides reliable products and that was one of key factors to decide."
