Honolulu highway

Kiewit Bridge & Marine used various Enerpac hydraulic systems on the West Oahu Farrington Highway project in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The six miles of elevated highway guide way was constructed using pre-cast box girder segments. The segments were placed using an underslung girder erection system consisting of two headings at different locations. Each erection heading was capable of setting 14 precast segments.

Enerpac's hydraulic systems were used for the placement of each of the pre-cast segments.

A portion of the highway was built over the island's major freeway. As a result there w as limited access and extreme traffic conditions during the morning and evening rush-hour. To limit the effect of this Kiewit used a cast-in-place balanced cantilever method to avoid lane closures.
