Reaching over any obstacle

28 April 2016

Maeda will be showcasing a series of mini cranes at Bauma, including the new MK1033C, MC285, LC383, the new CC1485, and an auxiliary winch and 850kg searcher hook for MC285-2, MC305-2 and MC405.

The new MK1033 with its articulated boom and jib attachment is one of the latest additions to the line, showing the ability to lift directly from the jib point similar to a knuckle boom. It is a narrow aisle, operator-controlled crane with the advantage of a hydraulic six-section luffing boom and jib.

This gives the crane a serious "up and over" capacity, making it easier to perform many tasks such as glass handling and installation, lifting in narrow spaces and placing Dormers and Velux units on rooftops, the company says. The MK1033 is still narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway yet boasts a lifting capacity of 0.995t and a lifting height of 11.3m.

The new CC1485 model comprises many market-leading features, including a massive 6t lifting capacity. In addition this environmentally-friendly machine is equipped with an EU stage 3B compliant engine making it up to 40% more fuel efficient, the company says.

The LC785 includes new features, such as a new engine, a new wider cab and an improved moment limiter. In addition, the updated model has a faster winch that is even more comfortable, the company says.

The MC405 can achieve a 3.83t lifting capacity, also showing a unique "Pick and Carry" feature of up to 500kg. The optional fly jib increases the already impressive working range even further, the company says. There is also an option of a class-leading Searcher Hook with 850kg capacity.

Big jobs for mini cranes Glass producing and handling company Roelants Glas from Belgium recently bought a new MK1033 in company colours from Maeda Benelux distributor, Heli. First the new crane was exhibited on the Heli stand at the Glass- Expo Polyclose in Flanders Expo Gent and a few days later, the crane had to be delivered directly to its first project, the famous Royal Museum for Central Africa in Brussels Tervuren. The Museum is currently closed for a complete renovation over a period of more than three years.

The new MK1033 for Roelants Glas was delivered to install windows in the big arches from the inside. The crane was driven in through a narrow hallway and put in place for the job, it had to mount windows weighing 300kg over scaffolding up to a height of 8m.

In addition, Maeda USA distributor, Inman Texas Company, is renting a Maeda LC785 telescopic boom Mini Crane to repeat customer, Flex-Erect, for steel erection on a tight, muddy jobsite at Rice University's Football Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Specifically, the bulk of the heavy steel and main structure were completed by larger cranes working from a distance at longer radius. The company says: "When interior steel stairs, beams, and canopy structures needed to be installed, the solution was to bring in a Maeda Mini Crane to work the limited perimeter areas and on the interior of the structure in tight work spaces, with other trades in the work space areas at the same time.

"The contractor was able to save a substantial amount of money by not having to hire in a larger conventional cranes to lift relatively light loads, from long radius in the blind. The use of a boom truck or other equipment was not possible due to the congested site, dirt perimeter and narrow access of the structure."

Providing a rough terrain track system, the LC785 can travel anywhere on the dirty, muddy job site, and also easily transition to work the interior slab wherever the steel needs to be erected.

Maeda's Polish distributor, Mini Zurawie Pawel Michalczewski, are in constant high demand with their range of Maeda Mini Cranes, the company says. For the larger lifts an MC405 represents a powerful machine with the added benefit of being compact enough to fit into smaller areas that larger cranes cannot reach.

The company says: "One of the most popular applications is factory work, in this particular job the crane was assisting in the assembly of a new dissolver in the Beckers paint factory. The weight of the components was as much as 4t, so the MC405CRM(E) was perfect for the job."
