FEM says consider use, not age, when considering tower crane life

The tower and harbour cranes subgroup of the European Materials Handling Federation (FEM) has released a position paper on the lifetime of tower cranes. In the document the organisation argues that it is the number of hoisting cycles that should define a tower cranes lifetime. The FEM said that if manufacturers manuals were properly followed this could mean some cranes could be used safely for approximately 20 years.

Eastime Construction Equipment Engineering used sixteen tower cranes from joint venture partner Fushun Yongmao on the construction of Studio City in Macau, China. The manufacturer said that the project would be Asia’s first leisure resort to integrate television and film production facilities, retail, gaming and hotels.

Sennebogen 680 works the channel

A Sennebogen 680 HMC mobile harbour crane is working as the only harbour crane in the British Channel Island of Alderney. Since mid-2013 the crane has been working at Braye harbour in St. Anne to ensure the supply of goods for the island’s population, which is delivered in containers.

NYC introduces 25 year age limit

The New York City authorities have announced new legislation that limits the age of cranes operating in its jurisdiction. The bill prohibits mobile and tower cranes manufactured more than 25 years ago from operating in the city. It is the latest in a series of regulatory changes since two fatal accidents in 2008.

Cargotec has established Sinotruk (Shandong) Hiab Equipment Company a joint venture with the China National Heavy Duty Truck Company (CNHTC). The Finnish manufacturer’s stake in the JV is 50 percent with Cargotec's estimated equity investment in the joint venture during the first operational year approximately €10m. Over several years the firm anticipates the total investment costs of the joint venture would be around €100m.

Nicolas delivers MHD G2 to Nigeria

Nicolas has delivered an MHD G2 SPE to Nigeria-based oil refining firm Addax Petroleum. Addax said it would be using the new vehicles for the loading of offshore components onto floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs), which are used in offshore activities for the extraction, storage and loading of crude oil and natural gas on drilling platforms.

Ingenieros Civiles Asociados SA (ICA) has used two Terex AC 500-2 all terrain cranes on the building of an elevated highway in Mexico City. The cranes worked individually and in tandem to lift prefabricated concrete columns weighing between 10t and 220t. The AC 500-2’s lifted at an average height of about 20m at a radius of 10m and 15m.

NCSG buy Doug’s Crane
