The upgrade was made after a two-day audit by National Quality Assurance, taking in the company’s headquarters and an operational job site in Whitegate, East Cork.
Wm O’Brien’s equipment range includes, self-erecting tower cranes, mobile cranes and crawler cranes. It established an occupational health and safety management system to help the company comply with legislation, reduce risks and continually improve the company’s occupational health and safety standards.
“This award is the culmination of all of the hard work we have put into ensuring we are compliant with best practice standards,” said health and safety officer Claire Waterman. “Our drivers, as well as holding crane operator tickets, undergo rigorous training, testing and constant monitoring of skills.
“We have now achieved the upgraded OHSAS standard of 2007 and we are thrilled that our perseverance has paid off. Management, as well as our safety department, have worked together to ensure the highest health and safety standards are achieved and maintained.
“We really feel we have raised the bar higher and are setting safety standards that others companies should aspire towards.”
