Bauma China 2010

With the country’s strong industrial market performance this year so far, companies will be falling over themselves at this year’s bauma China exhibition to establish a strong pan-asian customer base.

The largest event of it’s kind in Asia, the show attracted well over 100,000 visitors last year with businessmen and women from 124 countries clocking up the air miles to take part.

1,608 different exhibitors have been confirmed for the Shanghai exhibition so far, all focused on winning business in four different categories; extraction and processing of raw materials, production of building materials, component and service supply and general construction site plant.

Over the four days visitors will be challenged to cover more than 210,000 sq m at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). Kevin Walsh takes a look at what to expect.

Manitowoc Cranes – Southern outdoor area, stand A02
At this year’s event Manitowoc will be showcasing three cranes never before seen at bauma China.

Visitors may already be familiar with the MLC100, manufactured in Manitowoc’s Zhangjiagang plant in China last year.

The 100t crawler crane is the first in a new line of Manitowoc cranes being tailored to the local market.

The MLC100 features a maximum boom length of 73m, but with the optional 24m fixed jib attached, the maximum tip height is 81.8m with a 58m working length for the main boom section.

Over 300 horsepower (224kW) is provided by fellow exhibitor Cummins’ QSL300 engine, which is compliant with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) tier 3 standard.

Alongside the MLC100, Manitowoc’s joint venture partner since early 2008, TaiAn Dongyue Heavy Machinery, will present two truck cranes new to the Chinese market.

Dongyue’s GT55 truck crane will feature a 55t lifting capacity, while the GT25-5 reworking of the GT25 truck crane showcased at the last bauma China exhibition retains it’s predecessor’s 25t load capacity.

Cummins – North East outdoor area, stand F01
Cummins will be displaying a broad product range at bauma China, including 3.3L, 4.5L, 6.7L, 8.9L, 11L, 13L, 14L and 50L displacement series of engines.

The power systems manufacturer will be keen to continue building on it’s success in the Chinese industrial market last year, as for the first two quarters of 2010 sales of Cummins products were at twice the level for the same quarters in 2009.

This year will be the first time the firm has showcased its QSB6.7 engine on Chinese soil. Six-cylinder rated from 174 to 300hp, the QSB6.7 is also compliant with the EPA’s interim tier four standard.

As part of that compliance the engine features a diesel particulate filter engineered to withstand extreme vibration and shock loading while removing over 90% of particulate matter.

This, in addition to its use of cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is intended to ensure the lifespan of the product past the tier four standard’s final implementation in 2014.

Other features include a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) with electric actuation for improved response and control, an enhanced direct flow air filtration system and a high-pressure common rail (HPCR) system, all electronically controlled.

Tele Radio – Hall E7, stand 530
Remote control fabricators Tele Radio will be using its stand to publicize its Tiger range of remote controls, designed specifically for lifting applications.

The Swedish firm’s latest product range has an application ID transmission system, allowing users to use the same remote with several different pieces of plant.

Compatible with CANopen, Profibus and Modbus/TCP fieldbus systems, the series can also receive weight indication feedback or internal feedback through the receiver’s digital inputs.

Remotes are available with 12 different functions, or 10 if the optional graphical display option is chosen, as well as 2 joysticks with up to four speed settings.

Tele Radio has five different offerings within the series, the T20, T60, T70 Jaguar, T80 Leopard and the Lion. Each is tailored to a variety of situations, for example the T70 Jaguar is intended for radio-heavy environments where several remotes are in use, and the T60 is designed to allow it’s use with up to 1,000 different applications.

Tii Group – (Locations TBC)
According to heavy transport specialists Tii group, the difference in technical innovation between Chinese and European contenders in this sector represents a large gulf.

To further exploit this fact Scheuerle, Kamag and French sister company Nicolas will each be showing visitors their latest wares, including the Nicolas Wind Tower Adaptor, Scheuerle’s InterCombi Power Booster, and the Scheuerle-Kamag K25 platform trailer.

The K25 platform trailer was first shown at the bauma exhibition in April, but has been included for Chinese visitors unable to fly to Munich thanks to the air traffic disruption caused by the ash cloud eruption earlier this year.

For the renewable energy market, Nicolas’ Wind Tower Adaptor will be on show. The transport features specialized telescopic adaptors capable of transporting turbine tower sections as well as nacelles for the new Vestas V90 wind turbine.

In addition Scheuerle will be bringing its InterCombi Power Booster. Operable as a selfpropelled unit or in combination with a range of InterCombi platform vehicles, the transport is the first transport in its class featuring interchangeable axle configurations.

Rayco-Wylie – Hall E7, stand 313
Canadian safety equipment manufacturer Rayco-Wylie’s focus at the exhibition will be the i3500 CANbus-compatible Rated Capacity Indicator.

Suitable for use with telescopic, knuckleboom and lattice cranes, the i3500 contains an easy-to-use interactive graphical interface showing the crane configuration and dimensions.

The device links each sensor used to a single cable network, enabling it to display all information needed to determine safety parameters easily on the 6.25” x 8.5” x 3” screen.

Capable of continuously displaying fall and duty settings, the i3500 also features a hoist rope overload protection system for added safety.

A built-in self-diagnostic tool, in conjunction with its generous memory allocation, helps to protect data should the unit fail during operation.

The device is IP 65 rated and meets European standard EN 13000 and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standards.

Ritchie Brothers – Hall E7, stand 641

As part of Auctioneers Ritchie Brothers’ foray into the Asian market this year, the firm will be publicizing its newly developed international equipment auction website at the event.

Having experienced interest from 17 different countries across the continent for 90 different categories of equipment, the company is keen to exploit this previously untapped market.

Following the opening of its second Asian auction site in Narita, Japan, the auctioneers have underlined their commitment to the Chinese market by ensuring the website’s multifunctional account management system is available both in simplified and traditional Chinese.

The website design also facilitates live bidding via the Internet in ten different currencies.
