15 November 2012

New cranes are on the agenda for Bauma China, the International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery in Shanghai this month. Attractions will include the unveiling of new truck cranes from Manitowoc, as well as a redesign of the crawler range from FuWa.

This is just a sneak peek at what the world-famous, 1,892-exhibitor show has in store for its 155,615 trade visitors.

The halls are ranged in a triangle, with Halls W2-W5 , Hall N1, as well as Hall E1-E3, housing construction machinery. The expo grounds will also show building tools, building material machines, components, and formwork.

In addition to those companies featured in our preview, crane builders from the region such as XCMG, Sany, Kato, Unic, Kobelco, and Favelle Favco will be in attendance, and are sure to wow spectators by launching new additions in their primary markets.

The exhibition was organised by German trade fair company Messe Muenchen in partnership with Chinese, German, American, Japanese, and Korean equipment manufacturers associations, ensuring an international attendance.

Fuwa
Fuwa will launch a completely new series of crawler cranes, the FWX series, and a truck crane for maintenance at Bauma China in Shanghai.

The redesigned series replaces the lower end of its QUY crawler range, up to the QUY 250 crawler crane.

The series comprises: FWX55, FWX75, FWX85, FWX135, FWX185, and FWX225. The model numbers include the maximum lifting capacity, in metric tones, in the model name.

Fuwa's corporate development executive director, Hemmo Luijerink, explained the design innovations of the FWX series, which is based on European concepts:

"The designs are based on a modular design, meaning the machine can be tailored for the market, with reference to its components and its application."

"The steel structure on the upper carriage stays the same but depending on the application and the customer in the market, we can fit different types of engines and different types of winches."

Target markets for the new series include international export markets outside of China, as well as Chinese clients looking to buy high-end cranes.

The large crawler cranes in the QUY series, from QUY 320 up to QUY 1250, will remain the same.

In addition, the company will introduce the FRC25-2, a compact truck crane for city and industrial maintenance. In September, the company had a launch event for its first new Fuwa FWX55 at its newly constructed Li Shi factory in China.

The company said that the color choice reflects the heritage of Fuwa, which was established in 1904.

Liebherr
At Bauma China, Liebherr will be displaying its 500t LTM 1500-8.1 all terrain crane.

The LTM 1500-8.1 combines high capacity and ease of mobility on the road and on the construction site.

For ease of transport by road, Liebherr designed the LTM 1500-8.1 with a 12t axle load and total weight of 96t. It can travel at up to 80 km/hr on the road, complete with all support elements and a four-part, 50m telescopic boom.

The 500t is provided with a 50m or the 84m telescopic boom. Thanks to the modular design of the boom and the Telematik single-ram telescoping system, however, it is also possible for both length variants to be used without any major investment being needed. And the LTM 1500-8.1 is popular not only among crane operators; crane drivers also appreciate the easy operation and the simple and rapid assembly procedures, for example when it comes to mounting the ballast, the Y-guying system, or the lattice booms.

Liebherr said its 500t remains the most popular telescopic crane of its class anywhere in the world: The company has sold more than 350 units internationally since its introduction in 1998. 150 units were produced from 2008-2010.

Zoomlion
Zoomlion will display its recently designed 80USt tower crane D1250-80 and all terrain crane ZACB01 at Bauma China.

The D1250-80 tower has been logged by Guinness World records as having the world's largest working radii.

The ZACB01 all terrain crane is currently the only capable of lifting 3 megawatt wind turbine, Zoomlion said.

The company also says it will show a Guinness-World Record Breaking concrete pump car, model X6.

Officers from the Guiness World Reocords witnessed a D1250-80 lifting a 5.5USt load lifted to 110m radius this last September. Zoomlion designed its double-stage progressive variable section boom system to enhance the lateral stability and lifting capacity of the jib. The effective working radius reaches 110m, the company said. Its 80USt maximum lifting capacity is 26.9% higher than towers with similar configurations, Zoomlion said. The self-adaptive power control technology can be offered with a power speed control mode for lifting, amplitude variation and slewing. This feature may be used to increase working efficiency and enable energy-saving.

The independently developed tower crane monitoring system can monitor the working conditions of mechanisms in real time, intelligently diagnose the system failure and therefore enhance the reliability of complete machine. During research and manufacturing, Zoomlion has also made a training animation to enable quicker, better and safer set-up of the tower crane.

Zoomlion says another of its towers, top slewing tower crane D5200-240, has the largest lifting moment in the world.

In June of 2011, Zoomlion integrated German JOST Company flat-top tower crane technology and new materials.

Manitowoc
Manitowoc announced that at Bauma China it will be showing its GT8 and GT10A truck cranes, as well as its 20t Potain MCT 385 flat top. All of the cranes were launched for regional markets earlier this year. The company says it may also present an entirely new crane, the GT20II.

Its MCT 385 topless tower crane and GMK6300L will also be on display.

Geared towards 8 and 10t-capacity truck crane demand in China, GT8 truck crane is in the 8t capacity class, and the GT10A truck crane is in the 10t capacity class. Both cranes have manual hydraulic controls designed for simplicity and ease of use. The booms are also of a simple, four-plate design. The cranes are provided with control panels showing feedback from devices such as a height limiter, a locking valve, and a level indicator. Robin Zhang, production manager at Manitowoc Dongyue Heavy Machinery, said the GT8 was designed, improving over predecessor cranes, to have 20% less tailswing than similarly-classed cranes.

The GT8, with its 17.4m main boom, a 6m jib, and height of 23.9m, can lift 1.3t at a 5m radius. The boom can be fully extended in 35 seconds. A single FAW engine produces 450Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. The larger capacity GT10A truck crane's 19.9m main boom can be extended fully in just 40 seconds. With a jib attachment, the crane's reach is increased to 25.8m.

Lifting and driving power come from a FAW engine that has a 101 kW rating at 2,500 rpm. The GT10A's fastest hoisting speeds reach 105m per min and its top road speed is 74km per hr. It weights 11.3t.

The cranes are being built at the newly modernized TaiAn factory.

The company has updated the factory's production processes in line with systems used at other Manitowoc facilities, by redesigning the factory floor and adding a paint line. The design process at the TaiAn factory has also been updated, incorporating Solidworks CAD software.

Earlier this year Manitowoc introduced its Potain MCT 385 topless tower, targeting the entire Asian market.

The dimensions of the MCT 385 tower give it a width of 2m and a maximum freestanding height of 64.9m. The hook height can be 50 m above the last anchor points. The crane can be erected with 3.33m or 5m inserts.

MOBA
MOBA, the German provider of sensor technology, measuring and control technology, will be presenting its solutions for the automation of mobile cranes at this years' Bauma China.

From single operating units up to full machine control systems, the units work for mobile cranes, and also for aerial work platforms.

With the MOBA Product Platform, MOBA offers proven standard controllers, sensors and HMIs for the automation of different machines. The modular, CAN-based structure allows the combination of all components according to the customer's demands. Thanks to this structure, a complete system can be realized quickly and efficiently.

With a full MOBA control system, all hydraulic and electric components of the aerial work platform or the mobile crane can be controlled. Thanks to the modular HMImc concept, the operating unit can be designed according to customers' requests.

The concept allows users to freely configure display, button and joystick modules. Up to six of the CAN-based square modules can be integrated in the operating unit.

The high performance controllers and the precise rotation and slope sensors measure the slope of the boom and the chassis work in a redundant way, just like the MRW. This moment-compensated load cell exactly measures the basket load to prevent an overload and overextension of the basket, which could cause the machine to tilt. All MOBA components are ideally suited for applications in harsh environments and under extreme conditions. The precise and reliable electronics are sealed with a special casting technique paired with robust housing protecting them from dust, vibrations, heat and cold.

MOBA is an international developer and manufacturers in as well as identification systems for mobile applications, such as construction machines, cranes and aerial work platforms, municipal vehicles, and agricultural machines. It was founded 1972 in Steinbach/Germany and today, with more than 40 years know how in the field of mobile automation, is an internationally accepted system specialist and OEM manufacturer. MOBA is globally represented with eight subsidiaries in America, Europe and Asia as well as an international dealer network. The company has been present in the market in the area of safety-related technologies for more than ten years with systems for aerial work platforms and mobile cranes.
