In our fleet: BKL, Germany

9 July 2013

Cranes Today first spoke to BKL in 2011. Since then it has gone on to participate in a number of high profile projects as well as developing its fleet. Here managing director Alexander Volz explains the company’s development.

In the past two years we completed our position as crane specialist by expanding our crane park with a wide range of tower cranes from Europe's top manufacturers that we offer for rent and sale. To unite all of them under one roof, namely Linden Comansa, Liebherr, Potain, Wolffkran and Cattaneo, was the concept behind it and never seen before in Germany.

At present, our crane park is one of the biggest and most modern fleets in Europe with more than 300 tower cranes and more than 30 mobile cranes up to 400t, a good basis to challenge the next steps in the European market.

We focus on products that please the needs of our customers and provide good quality. All models we are renting and selling are of high quality, but with different advantages. I think the best choice depends on the requirements of the construction site and individual investment opportunities of the individual customer.

Most of our clients are construction companies, especially in the renting business. But we also do special projects as for example last year for the Deutsche Museum that needed two of our mobile cranes to lift an antiquarian ship. In sales, we also have e.g. more and more clients from the craft business, because of the attractive offers of the BKL System Cattaneo that includes fasterecting cranes from 22-41m radius.

With the wide range of cranes in our fleet of tower cranes up to 750 mt, mobile cranes up to 400 tons and several mobile constructions cranes (MK 88 and MK 110) we can realize almost every project - from the carpenters' business up to huge construction projects.

The implementation of the various projects all from one hand is possible throughout Europe not only because of the broad selection of cranes, but also because of the practical expertise of our employees and the provision of logistics and the realization of assembling with own trucks and loading cranes. Some of BKL's reference projects are for example the construction of the European Central Bank with eight cranes of BKL, Munich's soccer stadium Allianz Arena and the BMW World (BMW Welt).

Most of our jobs are located in Germany, our home base, but we also provide cranes to rent and buy all over the world. Especially in Eastern Europe we are doing a lot of business, but also in Asia and Russia. At the moment there are, for example, several Liebherr EC-B from our fleet working in Bulgaria.

For BKL and also for me personally the latest happening was of course Bauma, which is always a special event. This year BKL was represented at Bauma for the twelfth time and it was a special show for me, because we presented the BKL System Cattaneo with new two-falltechnology, for the first time.

New this year was also the booth in cooperation with Linden Comansa, one of our partners in the segment of top-slewing cranes. Furthermore we bought five bauma exhibits to expand our crane park: a Linden Comansa 16 LC 260 12T, a Liebherr LH 150 EC-B 8, a Manitowoc Potain MDT 248 J10, a Wolffkran 7032.12 clear and of course the new CM 90S4 from Cattaneo.
