Schiedam, Netherlands-headquartered heavy lifting and handling equipment manufacturer Huisman has launched an automated visual inspection tool called Rope Vision. It is designed to enhance the reliability and safety of wire rope operations. Specifically aimed at wire ropes of heavy lifting cranes Huisman says Rope Vision enables predictable maintenance powered by data, helping teams make smarter decisions and reduce unplanned downtime.
Rope Vision integrates visual scans with crane usage data, plus other inputs, to predict the remaining wire rope lifetime expectancy and support timely maintenance planning.
By measuring and analysing key parameters including lay length, diameter, broken wires and protrusions, a severity rating, based on ISO 4309 standards, is given to the wire rope. This data-driven approach aims to enhance safety, extend wire rope lifespan and improve asset efficiency by enabling precise anticipation of maintenance needs and reducing unforeseen downtime.
