Stafford Crane Group rebrands its Soima tower crane manufacturing division.

Stafford Crane Group has announced the new branding for its Soima Cranes division, now to be known as Stafford Tower Cranes.

Soima Cranes was originally founded in 1977 with the aim of manufacturing building machinery and lifting equipment for the construction industry. Since 1980 it has been exclusively producing tower cranes, including hammerhead, flat-top and self-erecting cranes, establishing itself in the tower crane industry in southern Europe – with sales throughout Portugal, Spain, France and the Mediterranean countries.

In 2021 Soima was purchased by Phoenix, USA-based crane company Stafford Crane Group (SCG) then acquiring the title ‘Stafford Soima S.A.’ and, from now on, the crane manufacturing brand will be called Stafford Tower Cranes.

Along with the rebranding, each crane will now have a new designation and the full range of tower cranes will be made available globally. The current range includes models from 2t to 42t maximum load.

Stafford Tower Cranes has an extensive 2024-2025 modernisation and innovation programme in place with the aim of producing new crane designs and models. It is first looking to launch new luffing crane models from 8t to 42t design, with conventional and hydraulic luffing jibs. The development of new tower cranes is being facilitated by Stafford Tower Cranes’ newly established Milano Tower Crane Hub design office, located in Milan, Italy. Stafford Tower Cranes aims to display the first 20t luffing crane, with new cabin design, at the Vertikal Days trade show in the UK in September.

According to Patrick Stafford, president of Stafford Crane Group, the new family of hydraulic luffing cranes will be particularly versatile and, using ‘flat’ mode, they will be able to also operate like a typical flat-top trolly crane.

Stafford Tower Cranes’ innovation and product development programme also includes plans for all Stafford Tower Cranes customers to have an SC-Link platform, a software system allowing real-time monitoring of the crane, with daily reports, alarm alerts and or malfunctions alerts. The SC-Link also provides a real-time technical information on the cranes position, alarms, productivity and maintenance parameters, which in turn increases the efficiency and safe use of the crane. The manufacturing of the new cranes is under the direction of Derek Stafford (managing director STC).
