Australian crane rental firm Tutt Bryant Group, a subsidiary of Tat Hong, has bought the assets of Melbourne-based Bradshaw Ultra Heavy Haulage Ltd. In China, another of the Singapore giant’s subsidiaries, Tat Hong Heavy Equipment (China) Pte Ltd, announced it had completed two more acquisitions.

Danish wind turbine erection company KR Wind, a joint venture between Mammoet, Holland, and Enggaard, Denmark, is taking on a new Liebherr LG 1750 lattice boom mobile crane at the start of 2008. This is the second device of this kind in KR Wind’s fleet of cranes. In November 2007, the company received a Liebherr LG 1550, its fourth.

GTK raises first windmill in the field

Manitowoc’s Grove GTK1100 crane has completed its first series of lifts at a job site in Germany. The distinctive crane, with its unique design and transportation abilities, was first shown in iron at the Bauma trade show. Following further tests at Manitowoc’s Wilhelmshaven factory in Germany, the first unit went to work in December for owner Wiesbauer.

The International Marine Contractors Association has published 'Guidelines for Lifting Operations'. The guide includes sections on personnel, categorising lifts, risk assessments, lift plans, inspection, examination and marking of lifting equipment, maintenance and recordkeeping. An appendix features a job risk assessment form and worked examples of a number of key documents.

Bovis Lend Lease UK needed to employ police support to help rental firm Ainscough Crane Hire manoeuvre a 500t Liebherr LTM 1500.1.8 into Cambridge city centre. The crane was to be used to dismantle Comedil tower cranes supplied by Select Plant at the Grand Arcade, a £220m (EUR169m) retail development.

MacGregor's recent crane orders top $100m

In October and the beginning of November, MacGregor – part of the Cargotec Corporation – confirmed contracts for 179 cranes with a total value of over US$100 million. The cranes are destined for 43 ships on order in China and Korea, including oil/ore carriers, general cargo ships, bulk carriers and container feeder ships.
