Liebherr expect construction machinery results dip for 2013

Liebherr has announced that it expects a slight downturn in the construction machinery and mining area in its 2013 results.

FEM says consider use, not age, when considering tower crane life

The tower and harbour cranes subgroup of the European Materials Handling Federation (FEM) has released a position paper on the lifetime of tower cranes. In the document the organisation argues that it is the number of hoisting cycles that should define a tower cranes lifetime. The FEM said that if manufacturers manuals were properly followed this could mean some cranes could be used safely for approximately 20 years.

Eastime Construction Equipment Engineering used sixteen tower cranes from joint venture partner Fushun Yongmao on the construction of Studio City in Macau, China. The manufacturer said that the project would be Asia’s first leisure resort to integrate television and film production facilities, retail, gaming and hotels.

Sennebogen 680 works the channel

A Sennebogen 680 HMC mobile harbour crane is working as the only harbour crane in the British Channel Island of Alderney. Since mid-2013 the crane has been working at Braye harbour in St. Anne to ensure the supply of goods for the island’s population, which is delivered in containers.

NYC introduces 25 year age limit

The New York City authorities have announced new legislation that limits the age of cranes operating in its jurisdiction. The bill prohibits mobile and tower cranes manufactured more than 25 years ago from operating in the city. It is the latest in a series of regulatory changes since two fatal accidents in 2008.

First Liebherr LG 1750 in Canada

Surespan Wind Energy Services has become the first firm in Canada to purchase a Liebherr LG 1750 all terrain lattice boom truck crane. The firm plans to use the crane for turbine erection work in North America.

Fassi continues sector expansion strategy with forestry acquisition

Fassi Gru has bought shares in Swedish forestry crane company Cranab AB.Fassi will become one of the main shareholders of Cranab, which manufactures timber cranes. The Cranab group of companies has around 200 employees and a turnover of SEK350m (approximately €40m).

Terex sells truck business to Volvo for $160m
